TYPES OF STUDY ABROAD IN JAPAN FOR 2024

1. SELF-FUNDED STUDY IN JAPAN

Self-funded study in Japan means that students cover 100% of their expenses for studying abroad. This includes costs for preparing documents, interviews, tuition fees, and living expenses in Japan.

If you choose this form of study, you still have opportunities to receive scholarships from Japanese language schools, with criteria based on attendance and academic performance. Examples include the JASSO scholarship.

Currently, most Vietnamese international students in Japan are studying under this form, mainly because obtaining scholarships takes a lot of time and the conditions for receiving scholarships are very stringent.

2. STUDY IN JAPAN WITH THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP – MEXT

This is the most prestigious scholarship in Japan, designed to attract the best and brightest from around the world.

Applicants must go through multiple rounds of interviews and difficult exams to achieve this valuable scholarship, which ranges from 134,000 to 172,000 yen per month (the amount varies annually).

Due to its stringent requirements, not all students can study in Japan through this scholarship.

3. STUDY IN JAPAN WITH SCHOLARSHIPS FROM ORGANIZATIONS/SCHOOLS IN JAPAN

In addition to the MEXT government scholarship, many organizations and universities in Japan offer scholarships to international students. These scholarships aim to provide opportunities for studying and working in Japan, and to increase the labor supply for a country facing an aging population crisis.

4. STUDY IN JAPAN WITH SPONSORSHIP FROM BUSINESSES

This form is different from purely studying abroad. Specifically, you will study and work in Japan according to government regulations.

You will spend half of your time studying at school, and the remaining time working in jobs introduced by the school or the scholarship-granting organizations. The salary will be clearly defined from the beginning, ensuring you can work with peace of mind.

Depending on the regulations of each program, students may choose part-time jobs themselves or work according to the school and business sponsors’ assignments. Jobs can include newspaper delivery, nursing, restaurant work, and hotel services.

5. STUDY IN JAPAN THROUGH STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

If you are a student at a university in Vietnam, and your school has a student exchange program, you can apply to study in Japan through this form.

The purpose of student exchange programs is not to obtain degrees or certificates but to utilize students’ long vacations to increase their experiential opportunities.
