THINGS TO NOTE WHEN WORKING MORE IN GERMANY
If studying abroad in Germany and intending to work part-time, international students need to clearly understand the regulations and requirements of this country. Below are important things you need to keep in mind when working part-time in Germany.
1. Working regulations
– International students have two options for working hours: work 120 days a year and an average of 8 hours a day and work 240 days a year an average of 4 hours a day
– Students are not allowed to work more than 20 hours a week to ensure academic performance.
– First-year students can only work part-time during vacations.
– New language students are not allowed to work part-time.
– Dual study abroad students are only allowed to work 10 hours/week and need approval from the business.
2. Necessary documents
– Permit from the Department of Labor and the Department of Foreign Affairs according to Article 16 of the German Residence Law.
– Tax code and pension code to open a bank account.
3. Taxes and fees
– Income under 450 Euro/month does not need to pay tax.
– Income over 450 Euro/month must pay income tax, pension fees, and unemployment insurance.
– Vocational study abroad students with income less than 450 Euro/month (no more than 10 hours/week) do not need to pay tax; If over 450 Euro, pay tax according to level 6.
