GERMANY ALLOWS SKILLED WORKERS TO WELCOME PARENTS TO REUNION
From March 1, 2024, Germany has issued a meaningful new policy on welcoming families of skilled workers. Accordingly, parents of skilled workers will be allowed to go to Germany to reunite with their children, opening up an important opportunity to strengthen family bonds and the Vietnamese working community.
This policy allows parents to be granted their first skilled worker residence permit from March 1, 2024 onwards. This brings about a regulatory consensus and is an important step forward in facilitating family reunification among Vietnamese workers in Germany.
However, to get a visa for parents to reunite their family, it is necessary to meet a number of conditions set by the German state. This includes holding an EU blue card or an intra-company transfer card (ICT-Karte), or a residence permit under certain conditions under the German Residence Law.
Another important condition is that skilled workers need to cover their own living expenses for their parents or parents-in-law, and if appropriate, also for other family members.
What’s special is that if skilled workers live long-term with their spouse in Germany, they can also apply for a family reunification visa for their parents-in-law.
This new German policy is not only an important step forward in supporting workers, but also an important step in promoting family solidarity and creating favorable conditions for the integration of workers. Vietnamese community in Germany.
