HOW CAN YOU GET TO GERMANY?
Germany is a developed country with quality education, a professional working environment, and many opportunities to experience European life. If you are planning to travel to Germany, there are many ways to apply for a visa and settle here. Depending on the purpose and conditions of each person, you can choose the type of visa that suits you best. Here are the common types of visas and the details of each method that make it possible for you to travel to Germany legally.
1. Language student visa
A language student visa is one of the most popular ways to study in Germany. This is a visa issued to those who want to study German at language schools before studying or working in Germany.
Requirements: To be granted this visa, you need to prove that you are enrolled in an official German language course at an accredited language school. In addition, you need to prove that you can afford to live in Germany during your studies by opening a blocked account (Sperrkonto). The amount required is usually around EUR 11,208 (as required in 2024), to ensure that you have enough money to cover your living expenses each month.
Duration: Language study visas are usually valid from 6 months to 1 year, depending on the duration of the course. After completing your course, you can convert to another visa such as a university, apprenticeship, or work visa if eligible.
2. Job visa
A work visa is a great option for those who already have a degree and work experience who want to come to Germany to look for work. This type of visa allows you to come to Germany for a certain period of time to look for a job that suits your qualifications.
Requirements: To be granted this visa, you need to have a university degree or equivalent vocational certificate, along with work experience in a related field. Although it is not required to have an immediate level of German, the ability to communicate in English or German will be a great advantage when looking for a job.
Proof of Finance: You need to open a blocked account and prove your financial ability, similar to a language visa. This helps ensure that you have enough money to live on during your job search.
Duration: A work visa is usually valid for 6 months. During this time, you have the right to search for work in Germany. If you find a suitable job, you can convert your work visa to a work visa.
3. Work visa
Work visas are available to those who already have a formal job offer from a company in Germany, or who are being transferred from a company in Vietnam to Germany.
Eligibility: You need to have a clear working contract with a company in Germany or a parent company in Vietnam that has a branch in Germany. This visa is usually issued to professionals, senior technical personnel, or those who are working for international businesses.
Duration: Work visas can be valid for 1 to 3 years, depending on your employment contract. After the expiration date, you can renew or apply for permanent residence if you meet all the requirements of the German government.
4. Aupair
The Aupair program is a popular form of cultural exchange, especially for young people who want to experience life in Germany. In this program, you will live with a German family, help them take care of their children, and do some light household chores.
Requirements: You must be between the ages of 18 and 26 and have a basic level of German (at least A1). The family you are staying with will provide you with accommodation, meals and a monthly allowance (usually between 260-450 EUR/month).
Benefits: In addition to living with a German family, you also have the opportunity to learn German for free through language courses. The Aupair program usually lasts from 6 months to 1 year, and once completed, you can apply for a language or vocational visa if you want to stay in Germany.
5. Apprenticeship
Germany is famous for its dual vocational training system (duale Ausbildung), which is a program that combines theoretical and practical learning at companies. The apprenticeship program opens up great opportunities for those who want to learn a profession in Germany after graduating from high school.
Requirements: You need a high school diploma and a B1 German language certificate. Vocational training programs in Germany are free of tuition fees and you are also paid a monthly salary during your studies (usually between 800-1,200 EUR/month).
Proof of Finance: The special thing is that you don’t need to prove your finances, which reduces the pressure compared to other types of visas.
Job opportunities: After completing an apprenticeship (which usually lasts between 2 and 3 years), you can easily find relevant jobs in Germany with attractive salaries. This opens up opportunities for long-term settlement and career stability here.
6. Study Uni (Foundation, Undergraduate, Master’s, PhD)
The University Student Visa (Uni) is a popular choice for international students, especially in Germany – a country famous for many top universities and a tuition-free policy for international students.
Requirements: Depending on the program you are enrolled in, entry requirements may vary. For bachelor’s programs, you need to have a German language certificate (at least B1 or B2), while for Master’s or Doctoral programs, English is also accepted in some disciplines. You need to prove your finances through a blocked account.
Benefits: You are allowed to work overtime for up to 120 days per year during your study in Germany. After graduation, you have the opportunity to stay in Germany to work for 18 months and can apply for permanent residence after 2 years of work.
7. Reunion Visa
The reunion visa is a visa for those who have relatives living and working in Germany, or are married to a German national.
Eligibility: You need to prove a marital or family relationship with a person living in Germany. If you are married to a German citizen or a permanent resident in Germany, you can apply for a reunion visa to come to Germany to live with them.
Benefits: When you arrive in Germany, you have the right to take a free German language course and get support with administrative procedures. You can also apply for a job in Germany or study if there is a need.
